Well we made it back alive, barely. It was, as usual, the best time of the year. I'll leave the reviews of all the bands, including us, to others. I believe if you go to and click on SOD Central, there will be some up there. Of course I want to than everyone who showed up and had a good time, but there are some who deserve extra special attention. First off, WIMPY for being a fucking professional. He was in jail in Austin for 26 hours, but got out and literally ran from his cell to the club JUST in time to jump on stage and do the songs he ahd planned to do with us. Then there is Widowmaker, who busted his as for a year to make this show happen again. Then we have Vasco who flew all the way from Portugal to play with us. A big shout out has to go out to Rancid Vat singer the TExas Stud, who provied he deserved his name by getting stomped unconscious by a group of cowardly Skinheads, only to be stomp back in the club from the ambulance mere minutes later, beer in hand, ready to party. Lastly, thank to people like Jeff and Andy Skipski, Bruce Roehrs, JT from Amersterdam, Ryan Almighty, the Botched Suicides from Canada, Mat and his buddy from Quebec, the German guy whose name I forget, and all of the other fans who partied with us at the hotel all weekend. Y'all were a blast to hang with. I have a LOT more to write about, but I am WAY too fucking tired, and I think I may have a cracked rib from the fracas that got the TExas Stud knocked out. But if he can't complaining about his ailments, I sure as hell ain't gonna whine about mine Posted by Hello

Duke's NFL Picks WEEK TWO

I have to do a quickie here, as I leave to pick up H Vasco Conin shortly. As usual, my picks are in bold

@Detroit8pts Houston

Detroit looked good on offense vs the Bears last week. Their D was decent as well. Meanwhile, Houston's supposedly rebuilt D looked awfule at home vs the Chargers. I like the Lions at home even with Charles Rogers out. It will be close, but Lions cover

Pats 8pts @Arizona

Yes, the Cardinals looked impressive in a losing effort at St. Louis last week. Yes, they held the high and mighty Rams to 17 points, while scoring 10 themselves. Oh, and I am well aware that this game is in AZ, where it will be about 95 degrees. Despite all that, the Patriots will cover, even with this high spread.

@Atlanta 2.5 St Louie

This is a tough one, as the Rams only scored 17 at home last week, however that was mostly red zone issues that hopefully have been fixed. In any event, the Falcons D didn't look so hot against a woeful 49ers team either. I think the Rams win outright.

@Baltimore 4 Pitts

This is a real tough one. I know the Ravens only scored 3 against the Browns last week, and looked awful on D at times too. However, in Baltimore, against a Steelers D that looked shaky vs Oakland, I say the Ravens cover.

@Cincie 4.5 Miami

This spread is a little high for my tastes, but with D being the only thing Miami has, and with Patrick Surtain out, I have to say Cincy wins and covers.

@Dallas 4 Cleveland

Dallas' defense will not have the trouble they had with the Vikes when they play the Browns. Jeff Garcia is no Culpepper, and there is no one on the Browns in the same universe as Randy Moss. Even though the Browns D showed up last week, I think they may have blown their load.

Denver 3 @Jax

I realize that the Jags beat Buffalo last week on the road, but Leftwhich was horrible until that last drive. Meanwhile the Broncos looked dominate vs. the Chiefs. Denver covers easily.

@GBay 9 Chicago

Man I do not like how high this spread is, but I can't in good conscience pick the Bears to cover. They got their asses kicked at home by the Lions. And Green Bay whupped up on the Panthers in Carolina. And with Mike McKenzie back for the Pack, I think Rex Grossman has a LONG day.

@KC 6 Carolina

Another really hard pick. However Arrowhead is one tough place to play, and considering how Ahman Green ran all over the Panthers I think the Chiefs cover. Priest Holmes is probably already drooling, as KCs O-Line is even better than Green bay's. However, look for a high scoring game, as Davis and Delhomme will keep the Panthers close, just not within 6 points, especially with WR Steve Smith out.

@NO 7 SanFran

The 49ers looked good at home vs the Falcons. But with Rattay out at QB, and with a young team in hostile territory, look for the Saints to win big. McCalister was emabarassed last week, look for him to be out for a big day to make up for it.

NYJets 3 @SanDiego

I don't want to call what the Chargers did last week a fluke, fuck it, I DO want to call it a fluke. Considering how the Jets totally shut down Rudi Johnson last week, look for more of the same this week. They won't do as good as a job vs Tomlinson, but they'd much rather have Brees try to beat them. Look for a big day for Pennington of the Jets. NY covers easy. This is my "Lock of the Week"

@Oakland 3.5 Buffalo

The Raiders looked pretty good in a losing effort on the road last week. The Bills looked horrible in a losing effort at home. That's enough for me. Raiders cover. As for McGahee, with Henry hurt, looks like he'll get his first chance to play a lot. Too bad he'll have to try and get through Washington and Sapp. Good luck Willis.

Seattle 3 @TBay

Seatle was a terrible road game player last year, but they won last week. Tampa's O was beyond lame vs. the 'Skins D. Now they face Seattle who is even better. Looks like Hasselback will have to win this game for the 'Hawks on his own, with Alexander doubtful, but he can do that. Tampa's D ain't what it once was. Big day for Koren Robinson I think after being horrible last week.

@Tenn 1.5 Indie

This is the hardest game to pick. I'm going with TN, even though their O is riddled with injuries. I just think that this will turn into a defensive battle and the home field will pull the Titans through.

Wash 3 @ NYGiants

While the "Skins didn't look like Superbowl contenders last week, they looked good enough to steamroll the Giants this week. Clinton Portis will run all over these guys, and Jesus Freak Kurt Warner will feel like Job before the 3rd quarter is over.

@Philie 3.5 Minn

Wow, now this truly is a game of the week. As often happens, it comes down to home field, and the Eagles have it. McNabb is better than Testerverde, T.O. is better than Terry Glenn, and Westbrook is better than Eddie George, so you have to think Philly will score a lot of points. However, the Iggles secondary is suspect, so I predict a very high scoring affair with big numbers for Moss and Dante. However, Eagles will cover and win.

Backlog of photos. You may need to click on the 9/1/2004 9/30/2004 archive link to see all the latest posts!

So it's been a long while since I've done stuff about Otis and shit. So here it all is. But first, remember my post about the Frog that moved into our pool after we kidnapped him in the middle of the night while returning from the bar. he had a friend move in about 2 weeks ago. They are still there today. Anyway, here's the rest of the Pics, mostly focusing on the near death experience of Otis. he was riddled in his innards with Vine Borers, but he is HEALED!. Posted by Hello

Here's a quick picture of our sunflowers. I put this in for Widowmaker, because he LOVES sunflowers, living in the sunflower state and all. Posted by Hello

This here is a pic taken today of Otis' main pumpkin. named Otis1. The beer can is there for scale Posted by Hello

This here is a sign of I possess a super-human trait of wandering around the Compound blissfully unaware of my own surroundings. The other morning I was walking the edge of the house, walking the dog of a person I have never even met, and still haven't, but their dog was at my house. In any event, I nearly walked right into this massive hornet's nest. It's about the size of 5 footballs. After some research, I discovered they are white faced hornets. Although they are good inects in terms of that they eat OTHER insects, one is advised not to fuck with them. They are very aggresive. Luckily they die in the winter, so I have decided to let them be until they croak on their own.  Posted by Hello

President Clinton vistied my blog today!

I know it's very rare I update my blog this often, but this is important! I'm taking my lunch break here at work, and I decide to check out who's been visiting here. (Yes, I KNOW WHO ALL OF YOU ARE!).
Anyway, earlier this morning, I recevied my first ever visit from someone from "United States - New York - Chappaqua". Now before you jump all over me, I know that Chappaqua has a population of about 10,000. But how many people are actually sitting at home at 11 AM in that tiny 'Burb? How about a guy recovring from quadruple bypass surgery? EXACTLY. OF COURSE IT WAS HIM!

Well Mr. President, this paragraph is just for the two of us. Thanks for dropping in. Even though I was never a big fan of yours, I always respected the fact that you just did whatever the fuck you wanted and worried about trying to lie your way out of later.
Hope you're feeling better, and tell Chelsea next time she's in NH I'll give her a good banging.

NFL Results Week 1

Well I didn't end up having time yesterday to go over my results and give a Monday Night pick. That's for the best,a s I would have picked Carolina anyway.

Results Straight Up
11 wins and 4 losses. Not too bad for straight up. I was shocked Houston and Baltimore were as awful as they were. I was not shocked to see Buffalo and TB lose, as I thought they would be close.

Results with the Spread
7 Wins and 7 losses and 1 tie. Ouch! I will say, in a desperate attempt of an explanation, I made these picks on Wed, and by Sunday the spreads had changed where I would have had another push in the Indy/Pats game. But oh well. A .500 record means I didn't lose any $, assuming I bet the same amount on each game.

H Vasco Conin arrives on Thursday, so I will have to try and cram this weeks' picks in early again. Sometimes that helps, sometimes it hurts.

I have photos from last week about another emergency surgery on Otis (who is now so huge it's scary, and he's got about a 15 pound pumpkin going. Hopefully over the next 6 weeks it really blows up in size to be, well, blown up.)

More info on Blog 'jacking

After a little research, I realized I was in error in blaming the Jesus Freak Tunnel Rats, although I still want as I do believe in guilt by association, even if it is only that both organizations are religious zealots.

My Blog has been Hijacked! (Kind of)

Just so you know, check my football picks in the post after this one!
So I was checking my blog to make sure it was posted correctly a few minutes ago. Keep in mind it's the day of the Patriots first game of the year, so I'm already drunk at 5:39 PM EST. So I type in my blog address in my browser window, but slighty misspell it. This misspelling opens the ABUNDANT BIBLE STUDIES homepage. What the FUCK?!?!
Why on earth would any URL hijacker want to try and mislead my faithful readers? Now, I could understand if it was some type of sick porn site, I mean I know Bad News Hughes would be thrilled to stumble across a Bukkake site while trying to view my blog, but a BIBLE STUDIES site?!
Methinks this is the work of the OTHER Tunnel Rats out there. You know the Jesus FREAK Hip Hop crew Tunnel Rats. Yes, perhaps the only thing lamer than MXPX (The Jesus FREAK punk band) is fucking Jesus FREAK rappers.
Well boys, in case Tesco Vee hasn't already informed you, JESUS HATES YOU! But he LOVES me, because I'm all cool and shit.

Duke's Football Picks of the Week

I figure I'll start a new weekly feature here, one that all of you will be able to keep track of this year to make fun of me for how stupid I am at picking games.

These picks are for entertainment purposes only!

Teams in bold are my predicted winners (or coverers, as I'm going with the point spreads here)With that said, lets look at this weeks' games!

@ Pats 3.5 Indie
I pick the Pats because they have the better Defense and the game is at home. Brady is going to have a big day and so is Corey Dillion (because of the weather). Manning can score 35 points, but it won't be enough because the Pats can score 42 on Indy's horrible D. That plain, that simple as Widowmaker is wont to say.

Atlanta 3.5 @San Fran
San Fran is perhaps the worst team in the NFL. Atlanta has an explosive offense with Vick, Price and Duckett and Crumpler. Atlanta's D is sketchy, but since the 49ers have ZERO offense, the 3.5 points is an easy take. This game could seriously end in a shut out. I thought for sure the line on this game would be at least 7

Baltimore 3 @Cleveland
Baltimore's D will crush the Browns. Esp because Lee Suggs, their RB is missing the game. Baltimore doesn't have much for offense, but they do have Jamal Lewis who ran for over 250 yards against the Browns TWICE last year.

@Buffalo 3 Jacksonville
If this was at Jacksonville, I might go the other way. However Buffalo had the number 2 D in the NFL last year, and Jacksonville's 1st team offense could not muster a single point against the Patriots SECOND team D in the last preseason game. I can't see Leftwhich doing much against Buffalo's very good secondary. Plus, Jacksonville's weak point is their D, and although Bledsoe is sketchy, Travis Henry should worry them enough that Bledsoe should get some intermediate routes open if he can be patient.

@Chicago 3 Detroit
Both of these teams are pretty bad, but frankly Joey Harrington with his 3 receiver set of Williams, Rogers and Hakim are more than the Chicago D can handle, esp with Kevin Jones to worry about at RB as well. Detroits D is shaky too, but Rex Grossman has no one to throw to, and Thomas Jones may have been great in pre-season, but he has yet to do squat in a "real" game (except for maybe 2 OK games with Tampa last year). Detroit won't just cover this game, they will win outright.

@Denver 3 KC
This game is a pick'em really. Denver has not looked good offensivley all pre-season (at least in the passing game). KC though will not be able to handle the pressures of playing at Mile High. Denver's D looks much improved, and with Champ Bailey in the secondary, the Broncos should be able to afford to sneak a safety into the box to try and help shut down Priest Holmes. This game will be close, but Denver will cover.

@Houston 4.5 San Diego
The only hope the Chargers have is that L. Tomlison runs for 250 yards and 4 TDs. He's all they have. Houston should be a solid 8-8 this year. Although Houston's D is not stellar, it should be more than enough to handle SD. On the other side, the Chargers are completed overwhelmed by D. Davis and the Houston wideouts. The Texans cover easy at home.

@Minn 4.5 Dallas
This is a tough line at 4.5. However, playing in the Metrodome is a huge advantage for the Vikes. I know Dallas had the #1 D last year, but they are missing Darren Woodson in this game. His leadership on the field is key to trying to keep a certain degree of levelness to the otherwise young squad. I know Michael Bennett is hurt for MN, but Moe Williams was more than adequate as a back up. And it appears Onterrio Smith sill get some carries too. Another advantage for the Vikes is that their D is much improved, and I think we'll quickly see if 40 year old Vinny can truly still play in the NFL. Don't be suprised if this ends up being the first harbinger of the Drew Henson era in Dallas.

@NYJets 4 Cinci
I want to pick the Bengals, I really do. I just think Cincy's strengths on D don't match up well with what the Jets have on O. The Bengals weak secondary fits right into the hands of Pennington's quick release, S Moss' speed, and the size and route running of J McCareins. We also get to see the "real" debut of C Palmer. I think he and Chad Johnson will have an advantage vs the Jets DBs, but only if the O-Line gives Palmer time, which is debatable. R. Johnson looked great running for Cincy in the preseason, but the Jets have beefed up their D-Line and gone to younger and quicker LBs. He'll do OK, but not good enough. The Jets cover.

@Philie 9 NYGiants
This is kind of a high spread, but I think that this game ends in a rout. Philly's D is not as good as last year's. Their secondary is suspect, they have lost ND Kalu for the year, and their LBs are unproven. However their D-Line still looks good with Kearse and now H Douglas. It will definitely be enough to destroy K Warner, who will look as awful as he did at the start of last season. The Giants D is just as suspect as it was last year, where they were awful. Look for T Owens to be open all game, hell even F Mitchell might look good for once. B Westbrook should blow through their defenders again like he did last year. Look for Reid to go for the blowout to make the Iggles fans happy. Phily covers easily.

@Pitts 4 Oakland
Another tough spread at 4 points, but I think that Oakland's D, while vastly improved, will wear down in the humidity predicted for Sunday. Pittsburgh will have trouble running the ball for the first half, so look for a lot of T Maddux passes to Hines Ward and P Burress. By the second half, fatties T Washington and W Sapp should be sucking oxygen on the sidelines as Staley and the Bus take turns pounding it at them. The STeelers D was shaky at times last year, but I think with a questionable running game, and questionable WRs (I mean Porter sucked last year, and J Rice should pack it in) Gannon will have trouble making plays. I still think it will be close, but Pitts covers.

@St Louis 11 Arizona If this was in AZ, I wouldn't touch those 11 points (it's 106 in Phoenix today). However in the speed dome in St Louis there is just no way the AZ D can possible hope to stop Bulger, Faulk, Bruce, Holt et al. AZ may have had a fighting chance to cover (not win) if they had A Bouldin, M Shipp or L Fitzgerald, but they don't. This is the proverbial "Lock of the week". This one will be very ugly.

Seattle 2 @NOrleans
I can't believe Seatlle is only getting 2 points in this one. Granted, they were 2-6 on the road last season, and maybe they ARE being overrated this year, but still. I mean, speaking of overrated, how about the Saints? They have a great RB in Deuce, a great wideout in J Horn, but only an OK QB in A Brooks. I know B Williams is a good TE too, but in the end, they have too many turnovers and they choke too much under pressure, especiually at home it seems. The Saints D is only the middle of the pack, and while Seattle will miss Chad Brown at MLB, their secondary is very solid, and their D-Line is much improved. Seahawks break the visting curse and cover.

Tenn 3 @Miami
It's a perfect indcation of how horrible Miami's offseason has gone when they are getting 3 points AT HOME in SEPTEMBER. I bet the line on this game in May in Vegas was Miami favored by 3.5 or higher. Then they lose Ricky Williams, then D Boston, then they trade a top flight DE for a mediocre WR, and well you all know the rest of the story. I know the Titans have had their losses, especially on D this year (although losing J McCarens hurt too), but I still think TN covers easily.

@Wash 2 TBay
Sorry folks, but the Joe Gibbs era number 2 in DC begins with a loss. It will be close, but in the end the experience of the Tampa D overcomes C Portis, M Brunell and the rest of the Redskins O. The real weakness for the 'Skins is on the O-Line, where J Jansen is gone, and a couple of other signficant injuries have occured. This will affect Portis' production and Brunell's pass protection. Remember, Brunell can't scramble like he used to. On the other side of the ball, Tampa's O line will protect Johnson enough to let Gruden's version of the West COast O, dink and dunk their way down the field to win.

On Monday I will list my results and my prediction for the Monday night game

Holy Flashbacks

Ayup, this here pic was taken from this past weekend. Granted, the pic would appear to be from a veritable Tunnel Rats reunion of the lineup of 1994-97, what with Sgt Rox, myself and Bernie in an obvious state of complete and total annihilation gawking at a camera.
Actually it kind of was. We were down in Beverly, MA for the wedding of Bad Ass Ayotte. Back in 1993 when the Tunnel Rats first started, Ayotte was often at our rehearsals, going to Marty's, the Bowery and any other number of places where naked women, numerous illegal substances and lots of booze were to be found.
Who can forget the time we all went to the Bowery, got all fucked up on at least 3 substances apiece, and on the way home Ayotte decided his 1985 Audi Quattro was fully capable of being a beach vehicle? Actually I nearly forgot about it. I just remembered as I was typing this.
All I do remember is me and B-Face following Bernie and Ayotte down the main drag on Hampton Beach, NH. Suddenly, Ayotte, swerved down a side road, that I knew was a dead end, unless of course you wanted to take a spin on the beach. Since me and B-face were in his piece of crap Cavalier, and we were drinking from open beers, and empty beer bottles were up to our knees, we said "Fuck that" and kept going. Come to find out Ayotte's Audi did OK for awhile, but it inevitably became stuck. I believe (Bernie feel free to comment here in case I'm wrong) Ayotte made Bernie get in the drivers seat while he managed to get the car unstuck and off the beach through pure adrenaline. I still can't believe the cops didn't notice them out there.
In any event, Ayotte's wedding was a spectacle that made it feel like 10 years had never passed. I know that because by about 3 AM, Bernie and I had both puked. By 4 AM I was still drinking heavily, and playing the game where I would stand perfectly still for about a minute, then inexplicably stumble about 4 steps, then stand still again. And of course, I eventually woke up on the beach (the place for the wedding was on the ocean), covered in sand, clutching a fancy table cloth I had apparently stolen from one of the tables for the reception around my shivering body. I looked around blearily, and saw Sgt Rox about 5 feet away in the same position, also covered in a stolen table cloth. And there, about 15 feet away was a guy with his 2 kids, aged about 3 and 7, staring at us in horror.
The funny thing is, Ayotte now lives in Austin, so those of you going to the Supershow may get to witness scenes like this yourself in jut a few weeks.
